Emergency lighting at Frankfurt Airport

Back
Challenge

As one of the largest airports in Europe, Frankfurt Airport required a reliable emergency lighting system in the event of a power outage or outbreak of panic. With a passenger volume of around 57 million (as of 2012), there are very few buildings where safety is a bigger priority than at an airport.

Thanks to this solution, airport staff are confident that passengers can be quickly and safely evacuated in the event of an emergency.

Our future-orientated solution ensures that the on-going maintenance of the emergency lighting system at Frankfurt Airport is performed reliably and conveniently.

Solution

Our solution makes use of our CEAG automated test system which allows every one of the 55,000 connected emergency luminaires to be tested on a regular basis. Any faults are immediately identified and alerted to the airport maintenance team.

We used CGVision master software to visualise the entire system at Frankfurt Airport. Essentially, this makes life easier for airport staff. For instance, a fault with a luminaire is displayed centrally on a screen in the control room.

Since our client wanted particularly energy-efficient luminaires, we used our advanced LED GuideLed luminaire products. The power consumption of a GuideLed escape sign is roughly 70% less than that of luminaires with fluorescent lamps. In addition, the LEDs’ long service life of 50,000 hours reduces the amount of maintenance required.
